Festival Tour
Bhutan, a Buddhist country, celebrates a number of festivals throughout the year in various parts of the country. The Tshechu, which literally translates to “the tenth day,” is the most well-known. Tsechus are celebrations honoring the accomplishments and acts of Guru Padmasambhava, a revered Buddhist saint better known in Bhutan as Guru Rinpoche. The many festivals in Bhutan are held on the tenth day of the lunar calendar throughout the year because it is said that Guru Rimpoche was born on the tenth day of the lunar calendar and that all of his great accomplishments were also completed on the tenth day. During the celebrations, a variety of mask dances, songs, and dances are performed alongside religious rites.
The most well-liked festivals are the Paro Tsechu, Thimphu Tsechu, and the Ura Yakchoe.
